Ink Review: Noodler's Lexington Gray

Pen: Lamy Safari Medium
Paper: Rhodia #18 Grid Lines, Georgia Pacific 75g, Hammermill 90g, Sustainable Earth by Staples

I have been on a quest to find the perfect gray ink. So when I was picking up samples from Anderson Pens. I had to pick up a sample of Noodler's Lexington Gray. It is a lovely "standard" gray color with some crazy shading. I really love it even though it does not work great on cheap paper. My medium nib on my Safari is very wet and I think with a dryer or finer nib you would have less feathering on cheaper paper. Overall, this is going on my "to buy a full bottle" wishlist!

Here are some thoughts:

  • Flow: I found this ink to be very wet.
  • Saturation: This is a standard gray.
  • Shading: YES! This ink shades from a standard gray to a nice black.
  • Dry Time: Dry times rocked on all papers. Somewhere between 0-7 seconds.
  • Show-through and Feathering: I had some show-through with the lower grade paper (Georgia Pacific). I even had some show-through with Hammermill. Rhodia was awesome like always.  I had feather on all papers but Rhodia paper.
  • Waterproofness: Very waterproof.
