Ink Review: Platinum Earth Brown

Pen: Pilot Metropolitan with Medium Italic
Paper: Rhodia #18 Grid Lines, Georgia Pacific 75g, Hammermill 90g, Sustainable Earth by Staples

This ink was a total surprise for me.  I found it a nice change from Waterman Absolute Brown which is my normal brown ink. Platinum Mix-Free Earth Brown is a nice standard brown. When writing with my italic nib in my Metropolitan I was able to get some shading with the ink. Earth Brown is not very saturated compared to other brown inks out there. I don't consider it a true brown I found some hints of orange on Rhodia paper. What I did like was that it worked great on all the paper I tried it out on. I had little to no feathering on cheap copy paper and on Rhodia paper. Earth Browns dry's quickly on all paper I used. I did have some issues using this ink drying up while I was writing with my Metropolitan causing me to prime it from time to time. I did not try it in another pen to see if I had the same problem. This problem could be due to using a stub nib. This ink should show up different with a finer nib. Earth Brown is also not water resistant which could be a problem for some people, but not for me. Overall, I found this an enjoyable ink but I will be passing on picking up a bottle of it. I think I can find a better more behaved brown ink.
